11th Annual Labor Day Open House
Admission is free inside the Museum of Work & Culture and to all its events today! This year’s Open House commemorates the 75th Anniversary of the Woonsocket strike and riot in 1934. A play entitled "The ITU Meeting" about the strike’s aftermath will be presented. Also be sure to take part in our annual raffle!

RiverWalk: Before the Fires are Lit
Discover the winding history and continued importance of Providence’s rivers! Urban outdoor sculpture and beautiful civic and commercial buildings of varied architectural styles provide the setting for stories of Providence’s fabled past and dynamic present. This walk shares the history of Rhode Island’s capital city and the history of WaterFire. $10 per person. Reservations requested for this tour. “New Eyes on Woonsocket”
This photography exhibit by local artist Christina Lauzon offers a new viewpoint on buildings in Woonsocket in terms of architecture, texture, character and history. Lauzon, a Florida native, is co-owner of T. Lauzon Funeral Home in Woonsocket.

If These Walls Could Talk…. Ray Rickman, William J. Brown
Come hear Ray Rickman outline his groundbreaking research on William J. Brown and Brown’s family background. Brown was born in Providence in 1814 to a free family of color, but his grandfather came to Rhode Island on a slave ship owned by the famous Brown brothers. It is a rare historical experience to track an African-American family back to Africa. Rickman is a former president of the RI Black Heritage Society, and has conducted walking tours for the RIHS.
