Organization Description:

Southside Community Land Trust (SCLT) improves the health and well-being of Providence's most low-income communities by providing families with access to land, resources, and education to help them grow food.  Each year, over 2,000 low-income Providence residents directly benefit from SCLT's programs, which include community gardens, food growing workshops, youth gardening education, gardener leadership training and mentoring, and city- and state-wide advocacy for urban agriculture initiatives and improved community food security.

Purpose:

The Education Coordinator is responsible for planning and coordinating all education activities, with an emphasis on developing programs that share SCLT's best practices for building healthy soils and growing healthy food in Providence.  The Education Coordinator will spend half-time at SCLT's City Farm helping with day-to-day management and programming, but will work closely with all program staff.  This position will report directly to SCLT's Director of Programs.

Job Duties:

•       Develop and coordinate the following programming:
o       Educational workshops, including SCLT's city-wide Plant Providence workshop series and the Northeast Organic Farmers Association (NOFA RI) Advanced Growers workshop series
o       SCLT's Beginning Grower workshop series
o       Professional development trainings for SCLT staff to learn and be able to teach Beginning Grower workshops
o       Instructor training(s) for Plant Providence workshop instructors
•       Assist City Farm staff and volunteers with all aspects of urban food production at City Farm: production (planting, transplanting, harvesting), sales (farmer's markets and restaurants), and annual Plant Sale fundraiser
•       Assist Community Growers staff with resource distribution education planning and curriculum development
•       Supervise Children's Garden summer program at City Farm, including hiring of Children's Garden Coordinator and curriculum development for program
•       Support fundraising efforts as needed
•       Represent SCLT at educational and other events
•       Perform other tasks as required

Job Requirements: This position requires the physical ability to move/lift heavy objects, to kneel/sit/bend on the ground, and work outdoors in hot or cold weather.  The position will require evening and weekend commitments, as needed.

Schedule: 40 hours per week (full-time)

•       Self-starter
•       Basic computer skills (Gmail, Word, Excel)
