"Historic Interpretation: Artists Interpret the Historic Collection"

Artifact selection days at The Cassidy Art Museum (Osborne-Salata
House), 33 Washington Street, Peabody
March 1 and 8, 2009, 12:00 to 3:00 p.m.
The Peabody Historical Society is seeking artist submissions for a
unique exhibition, "Historic Interpretation: Contemporary Artists
Interpret the Historic Collection." Artists are invited to choose a
historical artifact from the Society's collection and create a new
work in any media that is inspired by that artifact. Artifact
selection will take place on consecutive Sundays, March 1 and 8, at
the Cassidy Art Museum. At this time, participants will receive a
packet consisting of an image of the object, relevant historical
information, and exhibition guidelines.
Artists will submit their work Sunday, May 24, 2009. The exhibition
will be installed by museum staff throughout the Society's historic
Osborne-Salata and Gideon Foster Houses at 33 and 35 Washington
Street. "Historic Interpretation" will open June 6, 2009 and will run
through October 18, 2009. Artists may choose to make their work
available for sale during the exhibition.
Selected artists will be featured in an exhibition catalogue and on
the Society's website. Students and artists of varying levels of
experience are welcome to participate, and all disciplines and media
will be accepted. Size and content restrictions apply. All works
will be installed in historic house settings, with installation
restrictions. The Peabody Historical Society reserves the right to
deny any work(s) for any reason(s). If you are interested in
