Autumn Woonasquatucket Watershed Walks Please join us... A new series of guided walks along the Woonasquatucket River Greenway linking Providence and Johnston has been planned. Join us in experiencing the beauty of the season while exploring and learning about the remarkable natural and human history of the Woonasquatucket River. September 9, 2008 An evening walk along the Fred Lippitt Greenway We will enjoy the beauty of an early autumn evening while looking out for the some of the wildlife that inhabit this urban refuge. With naturalist and Woonasquatucket River Ranger Gordon Fitch, learn about some of the plants and animals we encounter and how they survive in an urban environment. This easy walk will run approximately 2 miles along flat, primarily paved surfaces. September 9, 2008 Starts at Riverside Park, Providence 5:30 PM The Woonasquatucket ... The Woonasquatucket is truly an oasis in the densely populated Greater Providence area, providing habitat for a wide array of flora and wildlife. As an American Heritage River, it also courses through the region's history of immigration and industrialization. Walking the river's banks is perhaps the best way to appreciate both its natural and historic features, as well as the intricate connections between the two. These walks are appropriate for the whole family and accessible to the mobility-impaired. Bring water, snacks, and binoculars if you have them. This event is part of a series of walks along the Woonasquatucket Greenway called "Autumn Woonasquatucket Watershed Walks," organized by the WRWC this fall throughout the Woonasquatucket River Watershed.
