Historic New England staff explore building tradition, technology, and how lifestyles affected the houses of generations of New Englanders. Using high-style and vernacular examples from across New England, Senior Stewardship Manager Joseph Cornish and Preservation Specialist Sally Zimmerman trace changes in construction, style, and function in residential architecture in a series of lectures that culminates in a hands-on tour of a Historic New England property that will help you read your old house. Mr. Waterfield is an independent curator and writer, former Director of the Dulwich Picture Gallery, and curator of the exhibition Art Treasures of England at the Royal Academy. He is joint Director of the Attingham Summer School, and also Director of Royal Collection Studies. New Works from Old Places Twenty-first-century artists interpret seventeenth-century Essex County Members of the Newburyport Art Association visited seventeenth-century sites in Essex County this summer to create works inspired by the area's historic sites. The results are on display at this fine art show and sale. Historic property and fine art lovers are encouraged to view and purchase these wonderful works featuring seventeenth-century architecture, landscapes, and objects. One of the leading juried fine arts and crafts shows in New England, the festival features more than 175 artisans and their wares. Craft lovers are invited to view handcrafted jewelry, glass, photography, woodworking, pottery, clothing, metalwork, and much more. The event includes tours of the 1846 Roseland Cottage, summer home of Henry Bowen and his family, live music, and food concessions.
