What's Pecha Kucha?

Devised in Tokyo in February 2003 as an event for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public.

Drawing its name from the Japanese term for the sound of "chit chat", it rests on a presentation format that

is based on a simple idea: 20 images x 20 seconds. 

 

National Arts and Humanities Month is a coast-to-coast celebration of culture in America

held every October and coordinated by Americans for the Arts.

The Rhode Island Foundation invites you to a workshop on audience engagement in the arts on Thursday, October 20, 2011, 9:00 a.m.  – 12:00 p.m., at The Rhode Island Foundation, One Union Station, Providence.  Led by Deborah Obalil, a nationally known consultant on arts marketing strategy, the program will highlight the latest research and thinking on audience engagement and contextualize it for the local marketplace.  Participants will be provided with examples of these findings and theories in action from arts organizations around the country, including those in second-tier cities similar in size and composition to the Rhode Island market.  A resource guide listing where to gain access to the full reports that form the basis for the workshop will also be provided, along with a suggested Twitter follow list and other recommended resources (blogs, service organizations, etc.).  Ms. Obalil will be joined by Don Keinz, President of Acadia Consulting Group.  Acadia was the lead consultant on the 2008 Greater Rhode Island Arts Market Study, the findings of which will be discussed at the presentation.

 

 

Deborah Obalil, Principal at Obalil & Associates, has fifteen years experience as an arts manager and organizational development specialist.  Her consulting practice focuses on providing non-profit arts organizations, small creative businesses and independent artists with assistance in strategic business planning, marketing planning and research and executive coaching.  Clients range the spectrum of size and artistic discipline, in various geographic locations across the United States.  Deborah received her BA in History and Dance from Illinois Wesleyan University and completed the Executive Program for Nonprofit Leaders-Arts at Stanford University Graduate School of Business.

 

Don Keinz, President of Acadia Consulting Group, that was formed over twenty three years ago. During that time, he has provided management and marketing consulting to organizations in a broad range of industries across the country. He has been responsible for developing and implementing strategic plans, new product feasibility studies, research studies and marketing/advertising campaigns.  Don attended Hartwick College and did his graduate work at Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University and the School of Bank Marketing at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
