Join the conversation: Symposium Twitter hashtag #WHS36 36th Whaling History Symposium Featuring Industry's Role in the Civil War Saturday, October 15 Are you a whaling history enthusiast?  This concentrated program packs a full schedule of expert presentations and reports into one day at the New Bedford Whaling Museum. The Whaling History Symposium is the only international forum about whales and whaling in the arts, humanities and sciences. The emphasis is upon new research, works-in-progress, and recently completed studies that enhance our understanding of human relationships with whales, the ocean environment and the history of whaling. Can't attend the entire symposium? An added special event is the complimentary screening of  Hetty Green, Beyond the Myth - a documentary film by Lance Gunberg about "The Witch of Wall Street," the infamous heiress to America's greatest whaling and whale-oil fortune. This screening beings at 6:30, and is FREE and open to the public. Program Highlights Sunk by Torch and Stone: The Whaling Industry in the Civil War, Robert Lloyd Webb - historian; former curator, Maine Maritime Museum; and Research Associate, Kendall Whaling Museum; author of On the Northwest Textile Manufacture in a Whaling Town, Patrick M.
