The Krasl Art Center (KAC) offers exciting opportunities for achievement, growth and success in an
established visual art center and in an emerging culturally significant community. Located in St. Joseph,
Michigan overlooking Lake Michigan, KAC is 90 miles from Chicago, IL and Grand Rapids, MI. The KAC
staff and teaching faculty are comprised of fun, creative and enthusiastic professionals.
The KAC's varied audience base includes rural populations, second home owners, local families and
retirees, community organizations and schools, along with weekend and summer tourists.
Department Overview:
CUR-ED is the combined curatorial and education department of the KAC. This department is
responsible for the interpretation, presentation and development of the KAC's permanent collection
and fine arts opportunities in the museum galleries, classroom studios, and throughout the community.
It is the goal of CUR-ED to enhance and expand audience experiences provided by the KAC by making art
engaging and relevant, while ensuring all educational programming is tied to the mission of the
organization.
Position Summary:
The full-time, salaried position of Education and Interpretation Manager conceptualizes, implements,
manages and evaluates programs and activities designed to facilitate understanding of art. The
Manager carries out the Department objectives, goals and strategies as conceived by the Director of
Exhibitions, Collections & Education.
The ideal candidate is passionate about the role of the arts in education, is a proven leader, possesses a
varied skill set while maintaining great flexibility, and thrives in a fast paced environment.
Primary Responsibilities:
The KAC strives to provide excellent experiences for all visitors while fulfilling our mission of Bringing
People and Art Together. KAC staff provide excellence, collaboration, innovation, respect with a sense
of humor, and professionalism within all facets of organizational advancement.
● Oversight of interpretive and education experiences including but not limited to studio
programs, workshops, camps, tour, gallery experiences, lectures and discussions, and outreach
opportunities.
● Use contemporary philosophies on learning to implement interactive gallery experiences for
diverse audiences.
● Reenvision the museum's school programs to ensure that offerings are relevant to the needs of
Michigan teachers and students.
● Inspire and manage a committed team of professional teaching faculty who create quality
programs supporting current philosophies in museum education.
● Supervise the work of education staff and faculty to ensure excellence in all programs and
activities.
● Assist in hiring, training, and evaluating and managing benefits for education staff and faculty.
● Work with department chairs to conceive of studio based art education experiences with clear
lesson plans, objectives and descriptions for youth through adults in support of the KAC's
mission.
● Serve as a liaison between part-time department chairs, coordinators, interns and faculty in the
education department and the KAC staff.Education & Interpretation Manager

● Assesses the impact of outreach programs and forge partnerships to strengthen impact.
● Evaluate success of programs based on audience, attendance, retention and impact.
● Communicate critical information about education programs to key staff in a timely manner.
● Oversee and adhere to the education budget.
● Oversee materials stock in all artists' studios (includes lifting up to 25 lbs).
Qualifications
● Minimum of a bachelor's degree in art education or a related field.
● At least two years experience in program or curriculum development in museums or other
formal/informal education setting.
● Professional museum experience or advanced museum degree is desired.
● Experience leading and supervising numerous staff and volunteers.
● Demonstrated project management and evaluation experience.
Preferred Skills
● Impeccable attention to detail, highly organized and strong time management skills to excel in
fast paced environment.
● Able to communicate effectively with diverse audiences (internal and external) through written
and verbal means.
● Able to work flexible hours including some weekends and evenings.
● Experience developing curriculum supporting national or state standards.
● Proficient in Microsoft Office.
● Strong presentation skills and ability to appeal to a diverse audience base.

Direct reports: Part time 2D, 3D and Youth Department Chairs, School Programs Coordinator
and KAC teaching faculty
