Fwd: Mystic Seaport Summer Internship

Mystic Seaport Summer Internship Program
(Mid-June through late August 2013)

Spend your summer on the banks of the beautiful Mystic River in Mystic, Connecticut, as you
learn about museums and the maritime world.

We seek a select group of upper-level undergraduates and graduate students who are curious
about museum work and passionate about sharing maritime history or marine science with the
world. See how the academic subjects you've studied in school get translated into public history
at the nation's fourth largest history museum. You'll go behind-the-scenes at this and other
museums with field trips. A weekly discussion seminar, assigned readings, and presentations
by Mystic Seaport leaders will introduce you to museum theory and current best practices. Two
days each week (including one weekend day) will be spent as an exhibit interpreter, bringing
what you've learned to a broad public audience. You'll spend 1-2 days each week working
closely with museum staff on a research project contributing to future exhibits, programs,
activities, and events. Depending on the intern's skills and interests, project areas might involve
maritime history, literature, art, drama, underwater archeology, or marine biology.

College or graduate credit is available through Trinity College or the University of Connecticut.
This is a full-time, 10-week internship that pays a small stipend to help defray living expenses.

To apply, please submit a completed application form, two professional letters of
recommendation, cover letter, and resume (or CV) to the address below. Priority will be given to
applications received by February 15, 2013. Phone interviews with finalists will be conducted in
March, with offers made in early April.

Mystic Seaport is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. Minority applicants are
encouraged to apply.
