This is a full-time, temporary position from November 2012 through June 2013.
Compensation: Competitive salary commensurate with experience.

ABOUT RICH
The mission of the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities is to inspire and support intellectual curiosity and imagination in all Rhode Islanders. It was founded in 1973 and its purpose remains largely unchanged today -- to promote public understanding and appreciation of the tradition of thought and accomplishment that we call the humanities. The work of the Humanities Council is based on the conviction that history, literature, philosophy, civics, the arts and other fields of the humanities are central not only to formal education, but also to the daily lives of free and diverse people. Since 1973, the Humanities Council has awarded over $7,000,000 in grants to support more than 550 organizations, from daycare centers and local historical societies to colleges and universities, throughout the state of Rhode Island. The Humanities Council is the only source of public funding for humanities projects in Rhode Island.

OPPORTUNITY
The Humanities Council received a planning grant from Newport's van Beuren Charitable Foundation to develop a new project in Newport that examines opportunities for collaboration and resource sharing among its cultural leaders (including but not limited to Newport Historical Society, The Preservation Society of Newport County, Redwood Library and Athenaeum, and Newport Restoration Foundation). Though this planning phase will be exploratory in nature, the long-term vision of the Newport Cultural Institutions Strategic Collaboration Planning Initiative is to assess how collaboration among participating stakeholders can lead to increased public access to and engagement with Newport's Colonial history. This initiative allows the Humanities Council to expand its leadership and service to Rhode Island's humanities magnets by providing advisory and administrative support to achieve shared goals of multiple cultural institutions.

The Project Director will provide administrative support to the project team, and act as a liaison between stakeholders, funders and external consultants.
