Graduate Flash Showcase @ AAM in Houston

What

As a new feature of AAM Career Café™, the Graduate "Flash" Showcase
will premiere at the AAM Annual Meeting 2011 in Houston on Wednesday,
May 25, from 12:15- 1:45 p.m. Each Graduate "Flash" Showcase will be
moderated by a facilitator from the AAM Committee on Museum
Professional Training (COMPT), and will consist of a series of
back-to-back mini-sessions (or 20-minute "Flashes") on current
programs, projects, research, etc. presented by graduate students or
emerging professionals with less than two years experience in the
field.

Benefits

The Graduate Flash Showcase will provide opportunities and benefits
for both presenters and audience members.  After participating,
presenters will be better able to:

§  Hone presentation skills in a professional setting

§  Share projects, papers, programs, or academic/professional experience

§  Receive invaluable feedback from colleagues in the field

§  Build professional presence/personal brand

After participating, attendees will be better able to:

§  Gain exposure to skills and perspectives of students/emerging professionals

§  Acquire information about programs, projects, and research that may
impact the future of the field

Guidelines for Presentations

Each "Flash" will be limited to twenty minutes and will be divided
into two segments:

§  Presentation of project, paper, research, program, etc. (<10 min.)

§  Audience discussion and/or interactivity (approx. 10 minutes)

Student projects, papers, or research should apply to museum practice and/or

theory, or be based on topics from outside the field that impact museums (e.g.

demographic trends, education theory, etc.).

How to Apply

In order to propose a "Flash" showcase, graduate students and other

emerging professionals must be members of AAM and must be available for

the presentation on Wednesday, May 25, from 12:15-1:45 p.m.  Selected

presenters must be registered for the Annual Meeting, and are not provided

complimentary conference registration.  Submission deadline is February 11.

Proposals will be reviewed by AAM staff and representatives from COMPT. For more
