Gallery: "Let There Be Light"
"Let There Be Light," an art show by artist Robert J. Ducharme will be on exhibit at the Museum of Work & Culture's Gallery beginning Sunday, August 29 until Saturday, October 23, 2010. The exhibit is a compilation of photos, collages, sculptures and paintings concentrating on the quality of brightness. Whether it's a rambling stone wall or a quiet boat on a field of snow, his artwork, either with his brush or with his camera, depicts quiet scenes and evokes moods,
Robert J. Ducharme is a renowned Woonsocket artist . He owned and operated the Ducharme Art Studio in Woonsocket for 35 years. He has taught art classes for many years at the Woonsocket and Cumberland Senior Centers and has also taught at the VA Medical Center in Providence. He was the concept originator of Woonsocket's Korean War Memorial in 2004.
He has exhibited in regional shows throughout New England, including the annual Art Festivals at Wickford, Mystic, Coventry, East Greenwich, Burrillville, Warwick and Putnam,CT. The artist has received many awards, including the Louise Cole Todd Award and 1st Place in the Woonsocket Fine Arts Photography show.

A More Complete History: Unit Plans about Rhode Island's Peoples
Over the past year, the RIHS has worked with master teachers and curriculum specialists to create new lesson plans on RI history. Please join us in the morning to learn about the RICH-funded lessons on people of color and in the afternoon for units that complement the new exhibit " Going to Work," funded by the John H. Chafee Blackstone River Valley Heritage Corridor Commission and the Levy Foundation. Admission is free, but registration for morning, afternoon, or all day is required.

Discover the winding history and continued importance of Providence's rivers! Urban outdoor sculpture and beautiful civic and commercial buildings of varied architectural styles provide the setting for stories of Providence's fabled past and dynamic present. This walk shares the history of Rhode Island's capital city and the history of WaterFire. $10 per person. Reservations requested for this tour.
