6. INTERNSHIP: FAMILY SERVICE OF RI
Family Service of RI is the lead agency of the Providence Children's
Initiative (PCI), the first RI program based on the successful Harlem
Children's Zone model, created by Geoffrey Canada. Working in partnership
with the City of Providence, the goal of PCI is to bring education and
social service providers together in a coordinated and streamlined way that
builds strong collaborative partnerships within the community and helps
children and families access the many services they need.
Interns will provide assistance with planning meetings of PCI partners;
community engagement work in Lower South Providence (LSP) about PCI,
including assisting with the planning of public meetings, possible
door-to-door outreach and representing PCI at public meetings; PCI's work
with the schools in LSP to help each child receive the services he or she
needs; and administrative work as necessary. Each intern will have the
opportunity to develop special projects based on interest such as: Building
PCI's continuum of services from cradle to college; Strategic planning
regarding the implementation of PCI; Applying for federal grants and the
reporting process; Grant writing & reporting, prospect research; Collection
and analysis of data for the purposes of tracking indicators.
To apply, please submit a cover letter and resume to Gilda Hernandez at
hernandezgi@familyserviceri.org or 401-331-1350 ext. 3364.
Hope your summer has been a great one! We look forward to seeing you back on
campus next week!
Best,
Heather
