Visit of South African poet and activist Breyten Breytenbach
South African poet and former anti-apartheid activist Breyten Breytenbach is visiting Brown University on December 3rd. He is going to moderate a seminar in the framework of the interdisciplinary Mellon Foundation Graduate Workshop on "The Everyday Life".
Given Breyten's background as a key figure in the international anti-apartheid movement and his current importance as an analyst and critic of present-day south african politics, we decided to open the seminar to faculty, graduate and undergraduate students within the Social Sciences and Humanities that are interested in social movements, namely in the field of international Human Rights activism, current south african politics, social stratification and inequality and the relationship between art and activism.
We therefore inviting you to join us and encourage your students to attend this event. The seminar will take place at 101 Thayer St./VG Quad A room 116-B at 5PM. Due to questions of space and in order to promote the participation of all the attendants, we can only host up to 20 people. Therefore, we kindly as you to RSVP before the evening of December 1rst and inform your students about this deadline for reserving a place in the seminar.
For reserving a place, please write to Ana Margarida Esteves (Sociology Department, E-mail address:
Ana_Margarida_Esteves@brown.edu) or Pauline De Tholozany (French Studies Department: Pauline_DeTholozany@brown.edu).
