The Local Inspiration for Cirque Mechanics¹ Birdhouse Factory, headlining
the FirstWorks Fall Festival 2009

Date: Friday, November 13
Time: 4:00 PM- 5:00 PM
Location: The MET School
Justice Building
325 Public Street
Providence, RI 02905

Join FirstWorks visiting artist Chris Lashua, artistic director of Cirque
Mechanics, to hear about the journey behind Cirque Mechanics¹ current
production, Birdhouse Factory.

Set on a 1930s factory floor, Birdhouse Factory explores the intersection of
art and industry by integrating acrobatics with machines and assembly lines
in a setting reminiscent of Providence¹s own industrial history.

Lashua will speak about the creative process of developing the show, from
combining a machine aesthetic with the possibilities of human bodies in
motion to drawing on his own experience growing up in a nearby
post-industrial New England town as inspiration for the storyline. The rich
historical context of Birdhouse Factory will be particularly engaging to
artists, residents, and students interested in making connections between
local history, cityscapes, and creative visions for the future of Greater
Providence.

Join Chris Lashua, and FirstWorks on Friday, November 13 from 4-5pm at the
MET School. Then on Saturday, November 14 at 8pm, see Cirque Mechanics¹
performance of Birdhouse Factory at the Providence Performing Arts Center.
