Rhode Island Council for the Humanities is Hiring a new Executive Director... spread the word....

Founded in 1973, the mission of the Council is to inspire and support intellectual curiosity in all Rhode Islanders.  We have recently launched the search for a visionary leader with knowledge and passion for the role of humanities in daily life and we are spreading the word about this opportunity as widely as possible. 

 

Former Executive Director Mary-Kim Arnold strengthened the organization's reputation as the preeminent funder of and catalyst for public humanities work in Rhode Island, in a wide range of communities and cultural contexts. Test Preparation Instructor Positions

 

We are seeking test preparation instructors for our GRE and SAT classes.  These are part-time positions with classes once per week on Sundays.  We seek intelligent, charismatic instructors who have both top test scores and excellent teaching skills.  Our company has a social mission to provide top caliber test preparation courses at a value price.  Team Sherwood is committed to the social responsibility of accessible test preparation courses: Everyone deserves to put their best score out there.

 

Salary: $30.00 per hour for GRE and/or SAT classroom instruction.

 

Qualifications

 

• Education: Current graduate or professional student (Ph.D. (or equivalent), Master's, J.D.); or Completed Ph.D. (or equivalent), J.D., or Master's degree.

 

• Test Scores: Top-tier test scores on one of the following: GRE, GMAT, LSAT, SAT, or ACT.

 

• Teaching Experience: Have taught at least one university semester/quarter class.  Prior university teaching experience is required.

 

• Quantitative and Verbal Skills: Must have BOTH excellent math and verbal/writing skills.  Sherwood Test Prep Instructors teach the entire course.

 

• Consistent Sunday Commitment: We seek team players who are flexible and can teach on consecutive Sundays throughout the entire year.  We only take off four weekends per year (those corresponding to): Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's.  Instructors can teach from 3 to 6 hours per weekend.

Implements and oversees MoMA's gallery lecture program, assists with coordination of all aspects of MoMA Courses, and manages educational programming for 12-Month Internship Program. Develops interpretive seminars, courses, and workshops for freelancers and public. Maintains master knowledge of MoMA's history and collection in order to teach from the collection and model excellent teaching practice for others. Gives Gallery Conversations. Liaises with Community and Access Programs and Group Services in recruitment and evaluation of over 40 contract Lecturers; develops and leads ongoing training; serves as point of contact for all Lecturer issues, maintains volunteer relations, and oversees scheduling of Gallery Talk Monthly Schedule. Handles contracts, payments, and expenses for Lecturers and other costs connected to the Gallery Lecturer program. Works with Assistant Director, Academic Programs on developing the content of MoMA Courses. Oversees implementation of all evening courses at the Museum. Interfaces directly with prospective students for courses. In consultation with Assistant Director, Adult Programs and Assistant Director, Academic Programs, develops and leads gallery talk training for 12-month interns, contract lecturers, and curatorial and education staff. Develops and implements an innovative education program that introduces 12-month interns to Museum practice and theory. In consultation with Assistant Directors and Director, Adult and Academic Programs, manages, implements, and organizes participatory gallery programs. Provides support for MoMA Courses and Public Programs cross-departmentally. Reports to Assistant Director, Adult Programs and Assistant Director, Academic Programs.

Requirements: MFA or MA in Art Education, Studio Art, or Art History and minimum 3 years' relevant experience in museum education, preferably in the adult programs area or equivalent. Knowledge of modern and contemporary art. Minimum 3 years' teaching experience in museums. Knowledge of lecturing in galleries required. Experience evaluating instructors. Experience developing and implementing public programs in museum galleries and auditorium-based programs. Excellent management and diplomacy skills. Strong experience in program administration. Excellent organizational and program management skills including: keen attention to time-sensitive tasks, details, and follow-up; ability to multi-task on several detailed projects simultaneously. Public speaking experience. Excellent writing skills. Fluency in a foreign language preferred.
