Distant Mirrors Saturday, September 17, 5:30 - 7:30 pm Providence River, South Water Street Bridge, Providence, RI Free and open to the public    Ellen Driscoll working with #2 plastic on a section of Distant Mirrors in a studio at The Steelyard, Providence, RI AIC will host an event in conjunction with the installation of Distant Mirrors by artist Ellen Driscoll in the Providence River near the South Water Street Bridge (near Hemenway's restaurant), Providence, RI. The event will include the official "launch" of the floating sculptures that constitute the piece as well as a "geographical tour" of the history behind and the local and global significance of Distant Mirrors by lead artist Ellen Driscoll and Jennifer Smith, one of her collaborators on the project and site manager of Roger Williams National Park in Providence. Afterwards, guests will be invited to join Driscoll, her collaboration team and AIC at The Wild Colonial Tavern, 250 South Water St. for discussion.   AIC is underwriting this endeavor with funds from The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts; Distant Mirrors itself has been made possible by a Robert and Margaret McColl Johnson Fellowship awarded to Driscoll by the Rhode Island Foundation. To read more about Distant Mirrors visit the Rhode Island Events Page.       Rhode Island Connected and Consequential Convening  Saturday, October 15 Mark your calendars!   This convening will feature a keynote by Carol Bebelle, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Ashé Cultural Center from New Orleans. Ashé's theatre work exemplifies a collaborative, integrated neighborhood-oriented artistic practice in dynamic conversation to the articulated needs from its community.   The conference will also feature a case study of Holly Ewald's Urban Pond Procession; an artist talk with visual artist Ellen Driscoll; and a tour of student and local artist multimedia responses to the Jewelry/Knowledge District in Providence, RI.
