Position: Exhibitions Manager

Montserrat College of Art seeks a motivated, skilled individual to manage and oversee operational aspects of exhibition production of all (5) gallery spaces on Montserrat Campus and provide administrative/technical support for the College's Visiting Artist Program. Position will serve as the point-person in the Director's absence to maintain smooth departmental operations, helping respond to requests, resolve issues, and assist with decision-making.

 

Description of Duties:

·      Responsible for the facilitation, coordination, and execution of all aspects related to exhibitions management including preparation, installation, de-installation, and transportation/shipment of artwork.

 

·      Facilitate student and faculty initiated exhibitions.

 

·      Compose exhibitions-related correspondence including loan agreements, contracts, condition reports and artist correspondence.

 

  • Assist with the production and editing of exhibition collateral materials, such as brochures and catalogues exhibition labels, wall text (including i.d. labels).

 

  • Responsible for gallery promotion such as flyers, signage, banners, postcards, advertising, listings and e-vites. Responsible for maintaining content for the gallery portion of the college website.

 

  • Work closely with Gallery Director to coordinate all aspects of the Visiting Artist Program and Gallery events including correspondence, press releases, general set up and take-down including arrangement of appropriate audio/visual equipment.

 

  • Provide day-to-day supervision of student workers. Interface with Montserrat community, general public, gallery visitors and professional community.

 

  • Responsible for running all Gallery Receptions and Special Events including: arranging for proper staffing, purchasing and presenting food, platters, beverages and take down.

 

  • Effectively represent Gallery in cross-departmental meetings and externally with art world professionals and artists.

 

 

Position Requirements

A Minimum of 3 years professional experience in a museum or art gallery, exhibition management and supervisory experience in a museum, gallery or arts organization.

Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Art History, or Fine Arts, and/or certificate in Museum Studies, a Masters Degree is preferred. Candidate must also possess practical knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop and/or Illustrator and ability to work with a Mac platform.


Skills Requirements

Demonstrate excellent organizational skills and ability to accomplish multiple tasks, work under pressure and meet deadlines. Strong writing, research, and project planning skills. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with students, staff, and faculty at all levels of the college. Capacity to communicate effectively and professionally with art dealers, curators, and living artists. Experience in writing and/or producing exhibition support materials. Demonstrated expertise in managing and coordinating all aspects of multiple complex projects. Experience installing and handling works of art and/or willingness to learn these skills. Strong interpersonal, negotiation and conflict management skills. Ability to work effectively in partnerships with people of diverse backgrounds. Knowledge of public relations and experience in publicizing and promoting events
