PPS Executive Director Accepts San Francisco Post – National Search for Successor to Begin Immediately
The Providence Preservation Society Board of Trustees announced last week that Executive Director Jack Gold has resigned from his post to accept the position of Executive Director of San Francisco Architectural Heritage, a 36 year old preservation advocacy organization similar to PPS. Gold will remain at PPS through December 20.

Check out the Most Endangered Properties Traveling Photography Exhibit
Join PPS at the inaugural Most Endangered Properties Traveling Photography Exhibit on view now at the John Nicholas Brown Center for the Study of American Civilization (JNBC), Brown University's center for the public humanities. The JNBC is located in the Nightingale-Brown House at 357 Benefit Street on College Hill. The exhibit is open to the public Thursday, December 6, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m., Friday, December 7, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m., and during the PPS Holiday Festival House Tour on Saturday, December 8, 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
The exhibit features the first-ever Most Endangered Properties List Oral History Project. Hear the voices and memories of people associated with the historic buildings on this year’s list. For more information go to www.ppsri.org or contact PPS at (401)831-7440.

Next Stop on Traveling Exhibit Circuit Announced: Twist on Angell
The Most Endangered Properties Traveling Photography Exhibit will travel next to the Twist on Angell Restaurant at 500 Angell Street near Wayland Square in Providence. The exhibit will be on display January 4- 31 in this New York style bistro that is a part of the Pinelli Mara Restaurant Group. Twist will host an opening reception the evening of Thursday, January 10. More details to follow, check www.ppsri.org for updates.

Holiday Festival and Benefit Street Stroll
December 7 and 8
After a six year winter’s nap, this much loved event lit the hearts of Rhode Islanders last year – as part of a larger weekend festival presented by PPS. As previously enjoyed by thousands of participants, this year’s highlights include horse drawn carriage rides, a special tree lighting ceremony, holiday bell ringers and carolers, mulled cider, roasted chestnuts, and other seasonal merriment.
NEW THIS YEAR - In partnership with the Providence Warwick CVB, the festival will conclude downtown with the annual tree lighting with Mayor Cicilline at City Hall.

Friday, December 7
* Patron’s Reception at the RISD Museum - 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Tickets are $100 (no member discount).
Saturday, December 8
* House Tours along Benefit Street - 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Guests will be treated to an up close and personal glimpse of historic Benefit Street architecture adorned for the holidays.
*Craft Boutique Sale, 9:00 am – 4:30 pm, First Baptist Church, 75 North Main Street
*Benefit Street Stroll- 3:00 to 4:30 pm
*Downtown Stroll- Procession downtown starts at 4:30 pm (at the Armory at the corner of Meeting and Benefit Streets). Celebrations continue downtown including horse drawn carriage rides, carolers, roasted chestnuts and holiday shopping. The event culminates in the 6:00 pm tree lighting at City Hall.
Saturday’s tour is $20.00 in advance ($25.00 day of the event). For PPS members, the Saturday tour price is $15 in advance and $20 on the day of the tour. PPS Event at the Gallery at 17 Peck
**On December 8, as part of the Holiday Festival, a portion of all gallery sales will benefit PPS between 10 am and 8 pm.**

Christmas Reborn: A Concert Featuring Holiday Gospel and Jazz
Thursday, December 20, 7-9 pm
Historic Trinity United Methodist Church – Come for a night of musical wonder, joy and unity! This event features the Kim Trusty Band, G.D. Hicks Quartet, renowned Cuban percussionist Jorge Najarro, saxophonist Chelsea Bailey, African-American jazz violinist David Eure, and a 20-voice gospel choir!

Holiday Festival Volunteers Needed
Volunteers are needed for the Holiday Festival on Saturday, December 8! We ask that volunteers commit to a three-hour shift between 9:00 am and 7:00 pm. Volunteers should enjoy working with the public and have a friendly demeanor. Responsibilities include: tour guide, greeting guests, pre-paid registration and ticket sales, street marshal, and book sales. In exchange for service, volunteers will receive free admission to this event. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact: Barbara Zdravesky, Volunteer Chair, at BZdravesky@Lifespan.org.

Become a Childrens’ Heritage Education Docent!
The Providence Preservation Society is looking for individuals interested in leading walking tours for elementary and middle school students; grades 4-8. Each year docents lead over 3,500 students on walking tours of Providence. PPS's award-winning program uses the city's architecture as a textbook from which students learn the history of Providence. No previous experience is necessary; just an interest in history and/or architecture and the desire to work with school children. Upon completing a week-long training provided by PPS, docents are asked to make a one-year commitment to the program.
