New Works/World Traditions is an international performance troupe committed to utilizing the power of performance to educate and inspire deliberation through sustainable social engagement. Brown University students performing under the direction of Michelle Bach-Coulibaly (Department of Theatre, Speech, and Dance, Brown University) tackle issues such as malaria and food crises faced by the people of West Africa through music, dance, poetry, and skits. The group has traveled to parts of Mali to perform and study. As a research-to-performance troupe, New Works develops pro-active theatrical performances that promote an egalitarian exchange of art and ideas across borders to address important political, education, public health and environmental concerns. New Works is comprised of Brown University faculty, alumni, current students, and professional Malian and American artists who work in collaboration to create theatre with multiple perspectives and of social relevance.
